Hit pause on workplace distractions! Music just might be the missing note to your productivity symphony.  Headphones are becoming more of a normal accessory to employee’s wardrobe, but this can appear unprofessional or even rude. To help eliminate the appearance of unwanted prejudgment it may be time to think about adding the tunes to your office space to motivate your staff as whole.

Here are some pros to adding music to the office space:

  1.  Music has been proven to lower stress levels by influencing emotions, and lowering blood pressure.
  2. Music can help you remember new things and specific details.
  3. Music can also help keep you motivated and reduce fatigue. On the same token, it can keep the office rhythm moving.

Here are some cons to adding music to the office space:

  1. Music can be a distraction to other staff members.
  2. Music can distract employees and cause safety hazards.
  3. Music can cause staff members to tap pens or feet, whistle, and even lip sing which could be a distraction to other staff members.

If you are thinking about adding music to your office aesthetic, it may be best to do a trial run to see how the office responds to the music. Giving employees some control over the music they listen to can lead to higher job satisfaction and performance. Do not be nervous to experiment with different styles of music and having themed based playlist (Throwback Thursdays, Timeless Tunes Tuesday, etc.)
