When trust is broken its hard to regain it back, but it can be mended. Trust is defined by Webster as “to place confidence in”. As an employee you should be able to trust your employer to treat you well and respect you as a person and employee.  Managers trust their employees to come to work on time and completing task given to them.  In return, the employee trust the manager to resolve issues, and work to help and benefit the team as a whole.

We all know that there are huge benefits for gaining trust within the workplace. Employers see employee’s engagement flourish, creativity heightens, and stress levels are lower when they trust their supervisors.

The building blocks for trust:

  • Acknowledge people’s emotions (both negative and positive)
  • Be honest and transparent
  • Take responsibilities and stand up for what is right
  • Practice open communications

Nothing breaks down trust faster than leaders avoiding conflicts, breaking promises, and ditching commitments.  Make sure that you are never too big to apologize for loss of trust, and you are committed to rebuilding the broken trust. Remember that trust is the foundation that keeps all things moving in the same direction.

So, get out your hammer and nails to build the trust your company deserves.

“How does one build bridges of trust with another? By paying attention to communication, commitment, competence, and character.” – Lolly Daskal
