There are employees around the world that can tell stories about enduring a bad boss. Not everyone knows how to be a great boss. Let us investigate what makes an individual a good boss. Good bosses display empathy, adaptability, communication, and accountability to name a few essential characteristics. They go beyond meeting deadlines, managing a team, and delegating tasks. Focal points include encouraging a strong culture with a work environment that promotes growth, collaboration, and innovation and provides support when needed.

Good bosses will inspire and build rapport that in return contributes to productivity and strong morale. They also desire to improve constantly and are always open to feedback. This allows them to keep advancing and find ways to empower their teams. Here are some qualities of good leadership that will make you a great boss.

  • Emotional Intelligence:  The ability to identify, understand and maintain not only your emotions but others is a good grip on emotional intelligence. This allows you to determine the importance of communication and are aware of how your actions affect the team.
  • Effective Communication: Communication is the backbone of good leadership. Clear communication, proper direction and articulating expectations omit frustration and confusion among employees. Remember communication does not stop with talking and sending emails. Actively listening to your team shows them they are being heard and their opinions are valued.
  • Taking Accountability: Leading by example and taking accountability for their actions is a sign of a good boss. They can take responsibility for their mistakes and identify how to improve in the future.
  • Inspire and Vision Focused: Another quality of a good boss is being able to inspire people with their words. They inspire others and can bring the team together to understand the vision and the bigger picture of the company.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: There are constant changes that take place in work environments and leaders will need to be flexible and adapt to the current conditions.
